What’s New for the 2020 Nissan TITAN XD

What to Expect From the 2020 Nissan TITAN XD Upgrades & Changes

Truck lovers are in for a treat this Halloween season, as Nissan has just unveiled details about what we can expect from the 2020 Nissan TITAN XD. We already shared some of the exciting upgrades and changes for the 2020 Nissan TITAN, but now, we have some information to share about the TITAN XD model specifically.

To start, the lineup for the TITAN XD in 2020 will be simplified. The model will come in just Crew Cab form, accompanied by a 6.5-foot bed behind it.

Engine Power Upgrades

The 2020 Nissan TITAN XD is powered by the Endurance® engine. It is a 5.6-liter V8 power plant that drinks gasoline. The exciting thing here is that power output is up for the new model year… quite significantly, in fact.

The engine now pumps out 400 horsepower and 413 lb-ft of torque. That is 10 more horsepower and 19 more lb-ft of torque.

Better yet, a new 9-speed transmission makes its way to the TITAN XD for 2020. Previous model years featured a 7-speed transmission, but this 9-speed has a larger final gear ratio of 4.083:1 for more torque delivered to the wheels.

Off Road Gauge and Other Tech in the 2020 TITAN XD

Another feature we are excited about is the high-tech Off Road Gauge. When you’re traversing rocks, hills, etc. off-road, you’ll be given information on your tire angles, as well as your pitch and roll angles.

On top of that, other tech has made its way to the TITAN XD, including full LED lighting in the bed of the truck. Inside, drivers will enjoy the 9-inch touch screen giving you access to the Integrated Command Center for Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and the new internal Wi-Fi router. Adding to the premium interior feel is a new Dual Panel Panoramic Moonroof.

How Many Texas Longhorn Steers Can I Transport with the 2019 Nissan Titan XD?

2019 Nissan Titan XD Towing Capacity for Transporting Cattle

Back in the early days of Texas history, the economy was built on cattle and today, the Lone Star State is home to more cattle than any other state in the U.S. And the face of the Texas beef and cattle industry is the hearty Texas Longhorn. Weighing up to 2,500 pounds and boasting a set of horns that can measure more than 80 inches from tip to tip, the Texas Longhorn is still a favorite choice for the grill and in the show ring. If you need to transport some of your prized Texas Longhorn cattle, you don’t need to do it with an old-fashioned cattle drive – you can do it with the 2019 Nissan Titan XD!

Engine Options and Towing Capacity of the 2019 Nissan Titan XD

The 2019 edition of the Nissan Titan XD comes available with two engine options:

5.6L V8

Horsepower: 390
Torque: 394 lb.-ft.
Towing Capacity: 10,950 to 11,680 pounds

5.0L V8 Turbo Diesel

Horsepower: 310
Torque: 555 lb.-ft.
Towing Capacity: 11,960 to 12,710 pounds

Please note that towing capacity may vary due to your chosen cab size, the addition of 4WD, axle ratio, etc. What’s the Break-In Period for a 2019 Nissan Titan?

Number of Texas Longhorn Steers That Can Be Transported with the 2019 Nissan Titan XD

Before we can provide a relatively accurate number, you first need to take into account the type of trailer you will be using to transport your Texas Longhorn steers. A 16-foot livestock trailer can typically accommodate four fully-grown bovines, though it might be a tight squeeze if your animals are impressive when it comes to body size and horn width. That 16-foot trailer (bumper pull-style) will come in at around 3,000 pounds if it is made of steel. An aluminum trailer will usually be about 10 to 15% lighter, so we can assume that it will be about 2,700 pounds if you go with a similar size.

We would like to note that while more expensive, many livestock owners prefer using aluminum trailers because they are easier to maintain and provide a more comfortable and smoother ride for the animals.

Next, you need to determine the weight of your steers. A really hefty Texas Longhorn steer can weigh up to 2,500 pounds, so you would only be able to transport three animals – and that would be pushing it for some Titan XD models by the time you include the aluminum 16-foot trailer. If your steers are closer to 2,000 pounds, the conventional Titan XD models can transport three animals more easily, and the diesel models can transport four animals. Younger (and more tender) Texas Longhorn steers are ready for market when they reach 1,400 pounds, so the conventional Titan XD can transport approximately five animals, while the diesel version can transport six animals (though you will need a bigger trailer to accommodate the animals and you might push the maximum towing capacity to the limit with the increased weight).

You also need to consider how much feed, bedding, and tack you need to bring along. While the beds in the 2019 Nissan Titan XD are spacious, you may need to utilize your livestock trailer to transport the remaining items, and it can affect space dimensions and towing weight.
