Compare Ford Ecosport Vs. Nissan KICKS At Charlie Clark

If you are on the hunt for a new vehicle in the El Paso region, then you may be torn between the choice of a compact car, and an SUV. If you want the best of both worlds, then you could decide to go for a sub-compact SUV. This segment is much smaller than other types of vehicle, but you should still find a reasonable number of vehicles, makes and models to make your selection from.

Two of the most popular sub-compact SUV vehicles on the market are the Ford EcoSport and the Nissan Kicks and indeed they are two of the best-selling sub-compact SUVs in the US, alongside models such as the Hyundai Kona and the Mazda CX-30. When looking for a used Ford EcoSport in El Paso or a Nissan Kicks, many people struggle with making that final decision.

Your friends at the Charlie Clark dealership in El Paso are here to help you decide which is the best selection for you – a preowned or new Ford EcoSport in El Paso, or a Nissan Kicks.

The El Paso Nissan Kicks … An Introduction

The Nissan Kicks certainly has a lot going for it. This subcompact crossover SUV was introduced to the US market in 2016 and even in a short expanse of time has had several upgrades and improvements.

Even the basic trim of the Nissan Kicks has plenty of excellent features as standard and also incredible cargo space for a vehicle in its class. The latest models have had their interior and exterior completely restyled, have Android Auto and Apple CarPlay as standard and come complete with adaptive cruise control, a Wi-Fi hotspot and an eight-inch touchscreen infotainment center.

The El Paso Ford EcoSport … An Introduction

People in the US may think that the EcoSport is a relatively new introduction to Ford’s range of vehicles but that’s not the case at all. It may surprise you to learn that the EcoSport has been around since 2003, originally made and sold in Brazil. The Ford EcoSport in El Paso though only entered the North American market in 2018.

Although the Ford EcoSport scores favorably with its maneuverability and above-average cargo capacity, it is not quite as ‘tech-savvy’ as the Nissan Kicks. Owners have also frequently complained about its slow acceleration, stiffness and limited driver visibility.

Nissan Kicks vs EcoSport

The engine supplied with the Kicks is part of a 1.6L inline powertrain complete with continuously variable automatic transmission with FWD as standard. This is capable of generating up to 122hp at 6300 rpm, with 114 lb-ft @ 4000 rpm.

The standard engine with the EcoSport is less powerful, being 1.0L turbo with a six-speed variable transmission. This actually is capable of generating more power – 123 hp @ 6000 rpm with 125 lb-ft @ 6000 rpm of torque. The acceleration provided by the Ford EcoSport is underwhelming, despite this.

You would expect the EcoSport to provide better fuel economy than the Kicks but it is the reverse that is true. Expect 27/29 city/highway with the EcoSport, which is completely shaded by the Kicks 31/36.

The Kicks is even kinder to the environment – based on 15,000 miles per year the Nissan will create 5.3 tons of CO2 emissions as opposed to the Ford’s 6.4 tons.

It terms of the driving experience you will not be winning any races with either of these vehicles, but that’s not the point. The Nissan Kicks though offers the better driving experience all-round. The visibility in the EcoSport is poor due to the thick roof pillars and a narrow rear window. The rear seats are tight too, and there’s a distinct lack of safety features.

Kicks vs EcoSport – Who Wins?

With this one it’s not even a close contest – the Nissan Kicks beats the Ford EcoSport hands down. Power, performance, driving experience – there’s not a single direct comparison that the EcoSport wins … and don’t just take our word for it, if you head to any site or publication that compares these two vehicles, a new or used Ford EcoSport in El Paso will always fail to compare favorably to the Nissan Kicks.
